Support Real Hip-Hop

The Purple Tape. If you're a hip-hop head, I need not explain that phrase. If you're new to boom bap, google it. Raekwon dropped an absolute classic with Only Built for Cuban Linx when it first dropped on August 1st 1995. Die hard fans waited through years as the sequel was pushed back, shelved, un-shelved and surrounded by a confusing and frustrating plethora of smoke and mirrors.

Well the wait is over.

As I sit and listen to an advanced copy of the much anticipated Only Built 4 Cuban Linx PT II, I can't help but feel like an emcee finally is reminding us what happens when you stay true to your fans, and yourself. Banger after banger, in true Wu fashion (No that isn't a wu-wear reference). Rae has done his job, and quite well. Now it's our turn. Go out and support the artist. Pick up a copy of Cuban Linx II when it drops on September 8, 2009. It's time to show this desperate industry that we'll still support music, if it's good. And this, is DAMN good.

Do yourself a favor and stand up.

There's a new breed of people frequenting your local dance spots. They're immaculately dressed and with their iPhone fully charged, they have come out to appreciate every single beat they hear.......without ever touching the dancefloor.

Wallriders, zombies, shy-folks, it seems like more and more people are content with sitting and dancing to themselves in their chairs nowadays. They have a great time, compliment the DJ on playing all of their favorites. Take videos of the night's festivities and throw them up on youtube, all without ever taking a second to let it all go and boogie. It's almost humorous to see stacks of people dancing in their seats as if they were eager to let loose, but to afraid to touch the dancefloor. Last time I checked, isn't that the point of going out to hear good music in the first place?

You'd be surprised how much more fun a night can be if you spend just a tad more time making a fool out of yourself on the floor. I guarantee it. And your DJ, will reward you for it by digging even deeper into the crates to make sure you stay happy all night long. As someone that spins in alot of scenes, trust me when I say that all of the praise in the world is still second rate to a packed dancefloor. When the crowd has a pulse, your DJ gets just as excited. And a happy DJ, will make a crowd happier anyway they can. It's a give and take.

This isn't just true when you're at a DJ set either. Shows, parties, anywhere with festive music should be accompanied by a festive audience. It'll put a smile on someones face, even if it's just yours.

So do yourself a favor. Put your phone away for a few. Stop tweeting. Stop worrying about scuffing your kicks, and start grooving. Save a dance for your boy
